Celebrate the new Wannamaker dog park in October with special Yappy Hour events!
[NORTH CHARLESTON] – The Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission (CCPRC) invites dogs and their owners to celebrate the upcoming opening of the area’s newest dog park during two special happy hour events this fall! Enjoy Yappy Hour on Thursday, Oct. 8 and 15 at Wannamaker County Park’s new dog park.
Yappy Hour events will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. Guests will enjoy live music while their pups explore the new dog park and its amenities, including the new spray play water feature. A food truck will be on site for each event, and beverages, including beer and wine, will be available for purchase.
Yappy Hour is free with admission to Wannamaker County Park ($2 per person or free for Gold Pass holders). Outside food, alcohol and coolers are prohibited. Food must be consumed outside of the dog park. Safety is a top priority at all CCPRC events. Yappy Hour will have a limited capacity per event. Restrooms and hand sanitizer stations will be available on site at the event. Charleston County Parks requires guests to wear masks when interacting with staff and volunteers. Staff will also wear masks and other personal protective equipment. Masks are required unless eating or drinking, or engaging in exercise or physical activity. This is an event meant to be enjoyed while social distancing, so guests are encouraged to be mindful and courteous of neighbors.
North Charleston Wannamaker County Park is set to soon open their new six-acre dog park in early October. The new dog park replaces Wannamaker County Park’s former off-leash dog area, but encompasses a larger area for play and parking while offering several new amenities for dogs and their owners. A highlight of the new Wannamaker dog park is the “Splash Paw,” a splash pad area for dogs only. The dog park also features two large meadows to provide different off-leash play areas for large and small dogs, along with a dog washing station. Also new to the site are a large restroom building, drink vending machines, seating benches throughout the park, and shade structures to cover benches.
Great spots for dogs to exercise and socialize, CCPRC operates three off-leash dog parks in Charleston County. These parks are open daily during normal park hours at James Island County Park, Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park, and North Charleston Wannamaker County Park. These are the only locations within Charleston County Parks where dogs are permitted to be off-leash. Charleston County Parks encourages all dog owners to review the dog park rules as well as our suggestions for pet etiquette, or “petiquette,” before visiting a dog park.
