Woofstock 2020 Raises Much Needed Funds for Local Rescue Groups

Woofstock 2020: A Lowcountry Dog Music Festival was brought to you by Pet Supplies Plus, The Bridge at 105.5 & 98 Rock.

On March 7th, the Lowcountry came out to Hanahan Amphitheater to celebrate Woofstock 2020: A Lowcountry Dog Music Festival. This local dog-friendly music festival is in its second year and brought some great musical acts like Drivin N Cryin and Ken and Drew from Sister Hazel. Over 1500 people including some of the Lowcountry’s finest food trucks, vendors and 8 local rescues enjoyed the sun and fun at the beautiful Hanahan Amphitheater. The music started at noon with a local singer-songwriter in the round with Matt MacKelcan, Emily Curtis and David Higgins taking turns at the mic singing and playing their original tunes, with some songs being the first performances of their upcoming singles.

The day ended with a gorgeous sunset while Drivin N Cryin played to an amphitheater full of fans and dogs alike. With staples like Let’s Go Dancing, Honeysuckle Blue as well as their 1991 hit single Fly Me Courageous, the night ended with a stirring rendition of Straight to Hell with Greg West, who performed earlier in the day and Brian Foster from Lowcountry Dog Magazine, joining Kevn Kinney and crew on the vocal harmonies. Their smokin rendition of Jumpin’ Jack Flash from the Rolling Stones closed the set.

Ken & Drew from the platinum selling band, Sister Hazel, co-headlined this years Woofstock 2020

Another highlight was Ken and Drew from Sister Hazel playing an all-acoustic set to some fans who loved to sing along and they often turned to the crowd for help with the vocals. Ken and Drew took time out their busy tour schedule with Sister Hazel to come to play this festival for us and we were thrilled to have them. They ended their hour set with their platinum-selling hit song from 1998, All For You. Drew jokingly said they weren’t even planning on playing that song but we know it is a staple in their setlist.

Lauren Morrow and her band from Nashville, TN came down and had the crowd dancing with her upbeat and happy country-pop style mixed with some down-home bluegrass. Rounding out the day was Greg West from Tampa, Florida and local favorites Gaslight Street and Sunflowers & Sin who all made their second appearance at Woofstock.

At the end of the day, $8,000 was raised for the 8 local rescues thanks to Pet Supplies Plus and Lowcountry Dog Magazine. A total of $20,000 raised since its first festival on March 23, 2019. Woofstock 2021 will hopefully bring more great music and raise even more funds for local dog groups.
