LCD Reviewer: Jennifer Heisler and her motley, but loveable, crew of rescues

Do you have a chewer, or a few, in your house? I’ve got a couple and am always trying to find chews that not only last but also hold the dogs’ interest. The Natural Antler Dog Chews from Scout and Zoe’s ended up being one of the best solutions for us!

The chews are pieces of naturally-shed elk antlers. The first thing I noticed when I took the chews out of their package is that the chews have almost no odor. This is a pleasant surprise when compared with other dog chews. The antlers are also clean—as in no sticky residues or dyes to get on the carpet and into my dogs’ systems.

Gracie, King and Salty were thrilled to have been chosen to test these apparently tasty chews. All three grabbed their chews, found separate beds, and went to work chewing. The house was so silent! They are still enjoying these chews a week later, and so am I.

Scout and Zoe’s antler chews come in a variety of sizes, from small ones for the little dogs who think they are big dogs, all the way up to Jumbo for your mastiffs, great Danes, etc. My pack recommends these great antler chews to dogs everywhere!

Score:

Pros: Organic, Renewable Resource, Stands up well to chewers

Cons: Dogs won’t put it down (if that can be considered a con)

LCD Reviewer: Susie Armstrong and her pack of three labs

Much like Cindy Quirk, the founder of Scout & Zoe’s, I am constantly on the look out for treats for dogs with allergies. I am also always searching for treats that my dogs will not destroy the day we get them. Scout and Zoe’s Natural Antler Dog Chews fulfill both of these wants!

Scout & Zoe’s natural antler dog chews are made from 100% naturally shed deer and elk antlers. They are touted to last five times longer than other chews, they will not splinter like bones, are chemical and preservative free and are a 100% organic, green, renewable resource. I do not have any way to measure to see if Scout & Zoe’s Natural Antler Dog Chews last FIVE times longer than regular chews, but they absolutely do last longer. I purchased an antler and gave it to one of my dogs and gave the other the Scout & Zoe’s Natural Antler Dog Chew. After 2 days, the generic antler is all gone. Although the Scout & Zoe’s Natural Antler Dog Chew has been chewed on (a lot) there is still at least half of the chew left! I would also like to note that one of the testers is a power chewer and chewed on the Scout & Zoe’s Natural Antler Dog Chew all night the first night that she had it and has been chewing incessantly all day. The antler appears to have some sort of marrow in it and may be a great tool for dogs who are bored, anxious or have separation anxiety.

I looked on the Scout & Zoe’s website to find out a little more about the company and their products. I noticed that the price of the Scout & Zoe’s Natural Antler Dog Chews are the same as the generic chews (which kind of surprised me since they have lasted much, much longer).

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone! I have been very impressed with the quality of Scout & Zoe’s Natural Antler Dog Chew!

Pros: Long lasting, will keep your dog occupied for hours, even days, great product for dogs who have allergies, organic treat that is chemical and preservative free. Scout & Zoe’s Natural Antler Dog Chew is much better and safer for a dog than a bone.

Cons: The Scout & Zoe’s Natural Antler Dog Chews are a little pricey (but in line with the price of other antlers), while being chewed, little pieces of the antler flake off and can become messy.

Some Extra Info from Cindy, the Founder of  Scout and Zoe's

Chews come in five sizes for the enjoyment of all dogs....small, medium, large, xl and jumbo.

Our chews are green (no chemicals or preservatives are on our chews), organic and created from 100% naturally shed premium USA elk antlers. Great for dogs who love to chew and for dogs with allergies (that is why I started the company...Zoe and Scout both have had allergies their entire lives and can't have anything beef related....no rawhide or bones or beef flavored anything).

While the dog enjoys the chew, it grinds into a powder which has calcium and phosphorous as well as other minerals. So while cleaning their teeth, it is actually good for them as well.

Our chews will not splinter as will bones. And Scout & Zoe's chews last five times longer than other chews. One dog who is a pal of ours has had his chew for nine months! Most dogs enjoy their chew for 4-6 weeks but it can last longer. Doggie parents need to supervise their pup while Spot is enjoying his chew and be sure to remove the chew when it becomes a choking hazard.

We hope to make our chews available through Charleston area retailers soon.  In the meantime, you can order through our website HERE.

He has never had an antler before but after reading about them on your site I think this product is definitely something I'd like to introduce him to.
Thank you for the chance.

My Catahoula, Calliopie and my Spaniel mix, Daisy, are always looking for good chews to taunt each other with. Lately, they have been chewing right through their bones and deciding to chew on each other instead! I'm sure they would appreciate a chew that lasts a bit longer, and isn't covered in fur and wrapped in a collar!

I've definetly got a power chewer in my house and she would love to try these! My 14 month old boxer/great dane mix can get through just about any toy/treat in a matter of minutes. We've never tried antlers before and I'd love to see (and report back about) how they hold up!

by Karen Granger (not verified) | Monday, July 11th, 2011 at 5:41pm

Three (3) boxers here at my house who love treats of any kind and chewies the best. I would love to find something other than a butcher marrow bone to give them something long-lasting to chew on and enjoy. Most chew treats are gone like lightening. These antlers sound wonderful. I would love to win these for my crew and if there's anything leftover after payday, I may just have to order directly from the website.

Samantha, Rider and Callan say "pick us, pick us".

My Pem Welsh Corgi is a busy chewer and if given nothing to gnaw on, he will turn to the wooden coffee table! Nothing beats a real bone or a natural antler...They are far safer than rawhides, but sometimes the bones can be a little messy and i have found the antlers to be better about that and also last a long time. We would love to win something for Buddy to chew on!

by Brittani (not verified) | Wednesday, July 13th, 2011 at 9:11am

I first heard about antlers as chews just a few months ago and would love to see what my two yellow labs thing of them! Sounds like a great solution.

Our boxer pup chews through his chew bones in warp speed, we were told about antlers in our petland store, and had some apprehensions about the safety and the desire to chew on these, after much research we think he might enjoy them. The prices here in Missouri for them are quite high though, we would love to try them before investing our life savings in something he may or may not enjoy. :D
