Meet a Lowcountry Dog: TR

Texas Ranger (we call him T.R.) is our 2.5 year old male Boxer. A little over a year ago we moved to my hometown of Summerville from Columbia. Coming from a 3-bedroom house with a backyard, TR was having trouble adjusting to apartment life. After a week of coming home to accidents on the floor, shredded toilet paper rolls and couch cushions pulled off, I opened the door to find everything intact. TR discovered the tv remote and had managed to step on it with his paw to turn it on. He was curled up on the couch watching Clint Eastwood's movie The Good, The Bad and The Ugly on AMC.

TR loves to run and play fetch with his miniature soccer ball. When we take him to the beach, he loves to dig and roll around in the sand. He loves to wrestle with his dad and cuddle with his mom. TR is very animated, curious and loving. Before owning a boxer, we were told that the breed is known for always being child-like. He's like a toddler that never grows up!

Our dog has been a part of our relationship since day 1. His dad was in the Marine Corps stationed in Southern California while I was in college at USC. The two of them made the 3,000+ mile drive across the country together to be with me. We have been a little family ever since.

Next year when we get married, TR will be the ring bearer in our wedding. He has shown us what it's like to have to take care of someone other than ourselves. I don't think it was until recently when we found out he had a mast cell cancer growth on his leg that we can't imagine life without him. He recently underwent surgery to have it removed and a biopsy showed it as only being Stage 1. The surgeon was able to move the growth in its entirety.

As we look ahead to our future together, we have comfort knowing Texas Ranger will be around to grow with us as a family!
