Meet a Lowcountry Dog: Shelby
My dog's name is Shelby. She is named after the Shelby Mustang because her daddy is a car fanatic and she's super fast! She turned 3 years old on April 26, but her adoption birthday is July 14, 2009. We think she is a Greyhound/Pit mix. She has the face of a pit and the body of a greyhound. We're going to do a DNA test on her soon to find out exactly what she is.
The most memorable moment with Shelby would definitely be the day we adopted her. She was in a little cage all by herself and I knew I loved her. As soon as we got her in a room to play with her she started to lick a cut that her dad had on his leg as if she was already trying to help him; we were sold.
Shelby loves to run and play with her brother and her other doggie friends, as well as with us and her feline siblings. She also absolutely LOVES baby pools. She can spend hours just rolling around like a pig in the pool without hesitation. She's so fast when running that her brother starts biting at her ankles to get her to slow down!
She has one of the best personalities I've ever seen in a dog. She's a 60 lb lap dog and loves to be around you, but she also knows how to play with herself and roll around on the floor with toys when she's bored. She loves everyone and every animal she meets and always has a smile on her face. She's also a very laid back dog when it's time to be relaxed.
Shelby has changed our lives in many ways. She was our first pet as a family and we would be lost without her. She always knows when you're feeling down and she's great at cheering anyone up. She's laid in bed with me all day when I was sick and couldn't do anything. She seems to put a smile on the face of anyone that she comes in contact with.
Shelby has showed me how great a shelter dog can be and she helped me realize that I wanted to work with animals for the rest of my life. I've worked at The Charleston Animal Society for over 2 years now because of Shelby and I am so grateful for her, as is her dad. She is just one of the best dogs out there in my opinion and we feel so lucky to have found her.
