Meet a Lowcountry Dog: Pearl

My dog's name is Pearl. She is a Maltese and will be 11 years old on Novemeber 4th. My entire family got together and voted on whether or not to buy me a Maltese for Christmas in 2001 since my Beagle was not expected to live much longer. They had Pearl hiding in a Christmas stocking and I will never forget when my niece handed me the stocking and I saw Pearl's adorable little face.

Pearl loves playing fetch with string beans. Don't expect her to bring any string beans back though. She is hilarious and very nosy. She doesn't want to miss anything and will howl very loudly if she is left behind. If I rearrange a room she will watch every move I make and stand there and bark if she doesn't like where I have moved something.

Pearl constantly reminds me about miracles. Last year she had a mass on her abdomen that we would pray about. I kept telling her that it needed to go or she would need to have surgery. One night I went out to dinner and came home and the mass was gone. She had gotten rid of it alright; she left it on the sofa and I almost fainted when I saw it.

Pearl was diagnosed with Diabetes in June 2011 and started insulin shots twice a day. Her blood glucose levels have been at times over 500 and as low as 26. Recently she had a golf ball sized mass removed and you would have never known it because she never slowed down. She loves every bit of life and I'm learning to thanks to her.
