Meet a Lowcountry Dog: Jake

My Golden Retriever mix's name is Jake. He is almost 2 years old and will celebrate his birthday on December 17th. One of the most memorable moments with Jake was on Sullivan's Island. One morning, we took him to the beach and taught him how to ride on the paddleboard with me. He was on the board like a pro in about 10 minutes. Amazing!

We do everything! He goes everywhere with us. Jake is the definition of water dog. Any and all things water, from swimming in a pool, to retrieving in the ocean, surfing waves, to just putting his feet and face in the baby pool at the dog park—he loves it all. The frisbee is a close second for him and he can spend hours chasing it. He loves to play with other dogs, especially our neighbor’s dog, Daisy. They just love each other.

Jake is a goofball. He has so much energy, excitement and love to share. I think he is also has an incredible strength of spirit. He is a rescue and despite being given up he is still willing and able to trust us to take care of him and love him. And he loves us right back in the most wonderful way!

Jake has brought my fiancé and I more joy than I ever thought possible. He gave us the gift of trusting ourselves to give enough and be enough to make sure he is a happy dog. We reap the reward of that every day!
