Good Dogs Gone Bad

I have a pair of criminals at my house. Sadie, an eight year old black lab, is a registered offender of counter surfing and Zeke my 2 year old chocolate is always a willing accomplice. However, they've never shown a specific interest in baked goods--steaks, pizza, crab cakes, and shoes are more their 'thing'. So I wasn't overly concerned about baking two dozen cupcakes (a dozen chocolate and a dozen yellow) for a friend's birthday and leaving them out to cool. In fact, they set out in the open all night with no harm coming their way and the next morning they got iced and plated to go.

I had to step out for about an hour to run an errand and returned home to the remains of their escapade. They had eaten all of the chocolate cupcakes, baking cups and (as you can see from the photo) most of the paper plate. The yellow cake cupcakes remained completely unscathed despite sitting next to the oh so tempting chocolate ones. After a frantic call to the vet and confirming probably no real harm (it was a milk chocolate mix and they are rather large kids), I made them pose for this picture at the scene of the crime.

Haha, both of them are craving for that chocolate cupcake! LOL! But it's a good thing that both of them are well after seeing the vet. Lesson: next time, make chocolate cupcakes, instead of yellow cupcakes! LOL!
