* What is the dog’s name that you are fostering? Rosebud
* Breed? Yellow Lab
* Male or female? female
* Age? about 2 and a half years old
* How long have you been fostering this particular dog? since March 2010
* Housebroken? Crate trained? Rosebud is crate trained and loves being inside the house with you.
* Tricks? (sit, stay, roll over) Rosebud knows her name, comes when called and sits on command.
* Is the dog good with other dogs? Cats? Children? She gets along with other dogs and is good with older children that she can't accidentally knock down.
* What is your foster dog’s personality like? She is loving and interested in everything that goes on around her. Rosebud is visually impaired, probably a congenital condition, and can see shadows and light. She gets around great - running in the yard, going up and down stairs into the house, interacting daily with multiple dogs. We think she may have been oxygen deprived during birth or have a slight form of mental retardation, as well. She holds her tongue out in a funny way sometimes, seems to be sterile, and is always happy. Just a little bit "off" but able to bond and make a strong human connection. She's a real special pup.
* What kind of family/home do you think your foster dog would work best in? Rosebud needs a home where someone is willing to work with her one on one and spend a lot of time letting her know just what a wonderfully special girl she is!
* What has been one of your favorite moments with your foster dog (something that will show his/her future owner what kind of lifelong pet they will be adopting)? Rosebud has gone from being deemed completely unadoptable to being a very adoptable, engaging, special needs pet. She loves to go for walks and rides in the car!
* Do you know anything about the dog’s past? She was owner surrendered to a local shelter after the owner threatened to take her to his vet and have her euthanized immediately if they did not accept her. (The shelter was full.) Rescue was called immediately and we agreed to take her, sight unseen.
* What rescue are you fostering with? Wild Heir Lab Rescue
* How long have you been a foster parent? To how many different dogs/cats? Since the beginning in 2001, and have fostered 100s of Labs.
* What made you decide to start fostering? My lightbulb moment happened after I saw a purebred Lab in a shelter. And I kept looking....and kept seeing. And started rescuing!

I am fostering Whisper. She is a female lab that is about 7 years old. She has been with my family for about three weeks. She is potty trained and no need to crate this lovely lady. She is a doll inside the house. Whisper had a tough beginning and was seized from a home upstate. She has little social skills, but is working hard on developing them. She loves to lay on her dog bed and relax all day. She is so mellow it is hard to imagine anyone ever denied her snuggles. She wants to play and be loved, but she is learning how to take it all in right now. She has no bad habits (barking, chewing, etc...) and is a follwer. She would do great with anyone who has the time to give her the love she deserves. She is great with children, cats, dogs, adults, and the elderly. She will not pull when being walked and is just looking for someone to cuddle with. She is very submissive and wants to please.

One of my favorite moments with Whisper has been watching her develop her playing skills with our 1 year old puppy. She has started to play back and get into their wrestling matches. It has been great to see her come out of her shell a little bit.

Whisper is from Lowcountry Lab Rescue (LLR). Whisper is my second foster and she will steal your heart. My husband and I are committed to being fosters, but she is testing my resolve to this commitment because she is so darn sweet. Michael and I are animal lovers and always adopt from local shelters or rescue groups. Our hope is to open our home to rescues that need a little extra time to find their forever home. The more fosters there are, the more animals rescues can pull from shelters...it is that simple. Not a hard decision.

I want her to find a family that has other animals that she can bond with and people to shower her with the love she totally deserves.
