Fore! Paws! Charity Golf Tournament

Event date:
Sunday, October 7th, 2012 at 12:00pm

CALLING ALL GOLFERS to tee it up for the animals. The 2nd Annual Fore Paws Open Charity Golf Tournament presented by Pet Lovers Warehouse is Sunday, Oct 7 at the Summerville Country Club.  The shotgun start is at noon with all proceeds from the event going to the Foster Medical Fund which provides medical treatment for the homeless animals of the Frances R. Willis SPCA.

The Foster Medical Fund provides medical treatment for the dogs and cats in the long-term foster program as well as medical treatment for dogs and cats at the shelter that need treatment beyond the shelter's resources - such as heartworm treatment, cherry eye surgery, traumatic injuries, etc.

The Foster Medical Fund does not receive any funding from the county or from the shelter.  All funding comes from the animal lovers in our community.  At any given time about 20 animals are in the program.  Freckles tested positive for heartworm disease and in now undergoing treatment in a foster home.  Toby was hit by a car and dragged himself to the side of the road where he spent three days waiting to be saved.  He was finally picked up by Animal Control and brought to the shelter.  He had a broken pelvis and one broken leg.  He also had heartworm disease.  He was treated and recovered in a loving foster home before being adopted to his forever family.  Freckles and Toby are just two of the over 170 animals that have been treated, put into foster homes and adopted since this program started in 2008. Without the Foster Medical Fund many of these animals would have been euthanized.

In addition to a great day of golf, participants will be competing for prizes.  This year, Central Veterinary Hospital is sponsoring a $5000 putting contest.  And there will be cash prizes for first, second, and third place teams as well as skill prizes for closest to the pin, longest drive and straightest drive..  The format is a 4 man captains choice with a BBQ dinner, award presentations and door prizes after the round of golf.

The cost of a 4 player team is $260 with individual players paying $65, $70 after October 1.

We are looking for golfers of all shapes, sizes, ages, and skill levels and this year we are proud to have teams of women competing in our tournament.  Come out for a great day of golfing and fun and save a life at the same time.
